„Mission Studies and Intercultural Theology: Discontinuity or Continuity?“ Third Conference of the Network Intercultural Theology, Loccum, 9-10 October 2024

The Conference theme

Since the discipline of Intercultural Theology in the German-speaking context historically
emerged from Mission Studies, there is an ongoing debate about the relationship of both. In
some universities the discipline Intercultural Theology is connected with Religion Studies, in
others it is linked rather to Practical Theology. This conference wants to shed some light into
this debate from an ecumenical and interreligious perspective.

Our keynote speaker is Prof. Dr. Claudia Jahnel (Professor of Missiology, Ecumenism and Religious
Studies at Universität Hamburg). She will introduce the conference topic by reflecting on
Intercultural Theology as a field of study.
